240/365 - Blowing Mommy a Kiss

Angel watched Isobel for us today. We walked up and met Jon after work. Stopped at the mall and walked home through the park.

Lazy evening. When Jon put Isobel to bed I took a nap as I had to do a bunch of parking equipment programming around midnight for the new HST. Why does the government always pick stat holidays to make changes to taxes?

239/365 - Asking for Milk

Isobel usually asks for milk and bed shortly after we get her into her pajamas.

The Sun girls and Matty watched Isobel for us today. She walked Jon to the elevator after he dropped her off and then didn't even wait to watch him get into the elevator she was so excited to go play.

As I left work, I realized that I had forgotten the car keys, so had to walk to Jon's office to pick up his set.

When I arrived to pick up Isobel just before 4 she was still hyper, but she fell asleep quickly on the way home. We picked up Jon and had the chili I made Sunday night for dinner with some baking powder biscuits.

Jon and I let Isobel have some naked time and she managed to get a little bit of pee and poo in her potty. We had a mess to clean up, but were very proud of her. I think she may be getting closer to being ready, but it's going to take some time to get her potty trained.

Isobel and I took a bath and then Jon put her to bed.

238/365 - Pucker-up Psghetti

I left work a little early today so that I could bring Isobel to her doctor's appointment. We got there super early and actually got in early; normally the doctor is running late. Isobel seems to be doing okay and Dr Hui said that she probably just had a flu last week. The funny smell could have been as a result of dehydration or it could be an early sign of cavities. She recommended that we take Isobel to a pediatric dentist. So I set up an appointment at the pediatric dentistry place at Oakridge Mall for early September - that was the earliest I could book on a Friday.

Isobel fell asleep after we returned to Richmond so I picked up a library book on cupcakes that I had placed on hold on the way home. Isobel continued to sleep when we got home granting me time to look at the cookbook; there are a couple of neat ideas in there that I may have to keep in mind for Isobel's next birthday.

Jon stopped off at home for a bit before heading out to have dinner with Matty (who arrived home today for a visit), April and Angel. Isobel and I stayed home to prevent her from having too many late nights (she ended up getting sick after a week of late nights and I'm trying to prevent that).

Isobel helped me make a recipe in the cooking for toddlers book I took out of the library on Saturday - pucker-up psghetti. I think this is a dish she may have to grow into. Although once I taught her to eat the noodles with her hands she seemed to enjoy it more. But it took her a very long time to eat and she ended up eating a bunch of goldfish crackers after she got bored of the pasta (almost an hour after starting it) so I think it wasn't enough calories fast enough for her. I probably make this again sometime, but it's not something that I'd make on a regular basis.

After finishing dinner, about 8:10 in the evening I put a disgruntled Isobel into her pajamas. She stood at the doorway to her room crying when she realized that I was planning on putting her in pajamas, but once they were on she wanted a bottle and bed. Although once in bed, she wasn't too keen on the going to sleep part. But she did end up passing out within 35 minutes though.

Now I'm just waiting for Jon to get home and debating about whether I clean or read. I have a feeling that the cleaning will wait until tomorrow evening as I'm tired.

237/365 - Sunday Cleaning

It was my turn to sleep with Isobel when she woke up. I ended up waking up with an upset stomach at 4am and had to switch spots with Jon. It took all of us about an hour to fall back asleep. And then I dreamt I had a stomach flu.

So I got up in the morning with Isobel and let Jon sleep in. Isobel and I watched Fantastic Mr Fox and she ate some corn squares cereal for breakfast. Just before it was time to get Jon up, Isobel and I threw in a load of laundry and took apart her alphabet square mat for cleaning. (Note to self: need to find a better drying technique).

We managed to get the living room floor cleaned up this morning - swept and washed. Plus we found a few missing things underneath the couch. Now to work on the rest of the house.

We walked to the grocery store and picked up the rest of the groceries. The rain managed to hold off and we were only drizzled on. Isobel fell asleep just before we got home and managed to nap for an hour in her stroller while Jon and I ate lunch and relaxed.

I made a pot of mild chili in the crock pot for later this week. Jon bbqed some chicken while I made a potato salad for dinner.

Jon gave Isobel a bath and then it was time for bed. Jon fell asleep with Isobel and I woke him up when I went in to kiss him good night.

236/365 - Daddy's Gaming Day

Jon had gaming today. Isobel and I walked him there and then went to the library. She fell asleep on the way there. I took out a toddler cookbook that I'm excited to try a few recipes in. Hopefully, she'll like them. She fell asleep on the way to the library, woke up there, and decided she didn't want mommy to look at any more books so we headed home.

We returned to Imperial Hobbies to get Jon when his gaming was finished. From there we went to Superstore for some groceries. Our list was too long to be able to carry everything home so we have to go again tomorrow to get the rest of the list. My new goal is that one weekend a month we'll commit to not using the car. It's this weekend this month.

I made some cornstarch and water to play with Isobel, but she wasn't interested in it. I'll try again when she's older.

Jon made burritos for dinner. Isobel was only keen on the red peppers and cheese. Went to the pool before going to bed.

235/365 - On the Mend

Went to work. Jon took family time to watch Isobel. They picked me up and we drove Jon to work.

Isobel and I played at home. She seems to be feeling better.

When Jon got off work, we walked up and met him.

Jon made pancakes for dinner with Isobel's help. Although, by help I mean she stirred and test tasted the flour.

234/365 - Watching Fantastic Mr Fox

Brett and his niece, Kayla, watched Isobel today. According to their report she was clingy most of the time, wanting to be carried everywhere and not walk. She did perk up for them for a little while after eating some edamame though.

When I got her back, she was crabby and tired. Jon stopped off at home for a couple of minutes after getting off work before he headed to gaming night.

Isobel and I watched Fantastic Mr Fox at her request while we ate dinner. Took a quick bath afterward, against Isobel's wishes and got ready for bed. I was expecting us to play a little (or at least watch some more Mr Fox) but she was so crabby and wanted milk that we went to bed. It took me almost an hour to get her to sleep, but she ended up going to sleep a little earlier than normal.

I also made a doctor appointment with our family doctor for Monday, as I'm not convinced Isobel's just getting over a cold. She was never really stuffed up.

233/365 - Walking with Daddy

Angel was unavailable yesterday so Jon took some family time to watch Isobel.

Since Isobel hasn't been herself, I made a doctor's appointment for her; our doctor was not in so it was with another doctor in the office. However, when I talked to Jon on the phone, he said that he thought Isobel was feeling better. When I jot home she was passed out on the couch and I figured it was better to let her sleep and since Jon thought she was better canceled the appointment. Isobel slept for almost two hours and would wake up and freak out until I was snuggled up to her. She was just super crabby and still smelled off so I called the infant nurses line. The nurse suggested that I take Isobel to her doctor or a walk in clinic. So I emailed Jon and then headed to a walk in clinic that I've never been to before. They had a waiting list of three hours; so I put Isobel's name on the list and we headed home. Jon left work early and got home a few minutes after we did.

We made dinner and waited until it was time to go to Isobel's appointment. The doctor took a look at her and said that she probably is getting over a cold and then stuffed up sinuses can give off a funny smell and to give her a couple more days to get over it. We were in the room for maybe three minutes.

On the way home, we stopped at this location near the employee parking lot at work to get some photos. And then picked up a few groceries.

I put Isobel to bed. She did not want to go to sleep and tricked me into letting her get up for a bit to give Daddy a good night kiss and then to brush her teeth. Sometimes I think keeping her in a crib would have been a good idea and then I remember the screaming that went with the crib.

232/365 - More Teething

Still dealing with a cranky baby who just wants to watch Mr. Fox. April watched her for us today while we were at work.

In the evening we went for a swim in the complex pool which seemed to cheer Belly up a little and made her slightly less clingy.

231/365 - Still Teething

I ended up taking a family day today. Isobel still isn't feeling well. The good news is that she does not have the fever anymore or at least it's not noticeable. The bad news is that she's still clingy and mostly only wants "momma".

Jon and I are both so tired lately. After getting up in the morning, I sneaked back to bed and fell asleep. Got up and did a bit of cleaning until Jon took over as Isobel wanted to snuggle with me.

Isobel and I then drove out to Matty's while Jon went to work. I was really hoping that Isobel would be distracted and not be so clingy if we were around other people. And eventually she was better; although I suspect that the gummy bears she ate helped with that. She had fun playing with Auntie April, Cally, Michelle and Ashley (who all decided to go play with Belly again). And I had a nice visit with adults.

We picked up Jon on the way home. Ate dinner, Jon gave Isobel a bath and washed her hair. Read a little Curious George and then brushed her teeth. While brushing her teeth, I made her gums bleed. And then she wanted me to put her to bed; usually she wants daddy. Guess she's still not feeling well.

Also, both Jon and I think Isobel smells off right now. It's not horrible or overpowering, she just doesn't smell like she normally does. Is this a result of teething or something else?

230/365 - Father's Day

Not a very exciting father's day. Isobel still isn't feeling well and was still a bit feverish. We ended up just lazing around in the morning (I did a little bit of cleaning) and mostly snuggled with Belly.

Belly and Jon fell asleep on our bed and took a little nap. I think Jon mostly dozed and was scared that if he moved, he'd wake up Isobel.

After they woke up we went for a walk through the park to the mall to pick up some salad supplies and bread. Feed a couple of bunnies, but Isobel still wasn't feeling herself.

Karla came over for dinner and a movie. We watched Isobel's favorite (for the third time that day) and had some Thai House. Karla made a wonderful carrot cake with cream cheese icing for dessert. Isobel was cranky all evening and just wanted "momma".

Jon and I played a couple rounds of his father's day present, Pandemic, before going to bed.

229/365 - Birthday Parties

We went to Cordelia's first birthday party at White Rock beach. Isobel was still not feeling well and was really clingy for most of the party. But she seemed to have fun playing with Mason and Cordy.

After the party, we went home for a little bit to rest. And then headed out to Chilliwack for Joe's 60th birthday party. We didn't stay very long for that, but with the drive and traffic did not make it back home until midnight.

228/365 - Teething Isobel and Kate's Play

I left work early today to look after Isobel. She had fallen asleep in the car when Jon came to pick me up and was still asleep when we dropped him off. So we sat in the parking lot waiting for her to wake up. Normally I have a book with me, but I didn't have one and was incredibly bored. After waiting for over 30 minutes, I figured I'd just go home and run my errands later. And of course, as soon as I started up the car Isobel woke up. So we ran into the mall and ran a couple of errands before heading home.

Isobel was clingy, tired, a bit feverish, and not feeling good. Her lunch and snacks consisted of freezies, frozen grapes and a few cherries. I tried to get her to eat something else, but no luck. We dozed together on her bed for a long time. She did not get into enough of a deep sleep for me to sneak off though.

We then quickly got ready to go pick up Jon from work. Dropped Isobel off at Cynthia's so that Jon and I could go watch Kate's play, Priscilla.....Queen of the Damned. I had been very tempted to cancel but Isobel was really looking forward to seeing Nicholas and I knew Cynthia would have no problems with a cranky Isobel. Plus I'm positive that the fever and laziness is from teething, not anything else.

The play was really good - vampires against drag queens. Kate had the title role as the vampire queen and did a great job. And of course, the Twilight series was made fun of. I'm really glad I went. April and a couple of her friends met us there as well.

Picked up Isobel and went home. She did have fun playing with Nicholas. Surprisingly she did not fall asleep on the car ride home, but it didn't take her long to get to sleep once we were at home. When she woke up the first time, I crawled into bed with her for the night. I really hope that these teeth cut through soon and stop make her uncomfortable!

227/365 - Day with the Birds

Robyn watched Isobel for us today. There was some jealousy between Isobel and Cordelia over Robyn's attention and some toys. But as we were driving away, Isobel got upset and pointed to their house. When I asked her if she wanted to go back and play with Mason she said yes. I then told her that we had to go get daddy but would see Mason on Saturday at Cordy's birthday party.

Jon came home with us for a few minutes before running out the door to gaming. Isobel was really clingy but also had bursts of giggle fits. She's very proud of herself for being able to say "apple juice". She felt a little warm to me. She also kept putting her fingers in her mouth and when I asked her if her teeth hurt she said yes, so I suspect more teeth are trying to cut through.

It took her a little longer to go to sleep than I hoped, but it was earlier than I had expected when she asked for a bottle and bed. Hopefully, she'll sleep well tonight.

226/365 - Kaj's Graduating

Angel watched Isobel for us today.

We went to Nuba this evening to help celebrate Kaj's graduation from high school. The food and company were great. Karla, you've done a great job raising Kaj!

Isobel fell asleep on our way home and Jon was able to get her to bed with little difficulty when we got home.

225/365 - Toilet Training?

Went to work. Picked up Isobel from Matty's. April and her cousin Michelle watched Isobel for us. Dropped the car off for Jon to bring home, since he had the garage clicker. Isobel napped in the car for almost thirty minutes. We said a quick hello to Jon on our way home. Once we got home Isobel was clingy and whiny. I asked her if her teeth hurt and she said no, so I'm not sure why she was so needy. I had dinner just about ready when Jon got home.

After dinner, I went out for Bubble Tea with a friend for some mommy time. I had a real nice visit with Michelle, I do not see her often enough. When I got home, after 8pm Isobel was still up and not yet in pajamas; she tricked daddy into not getting her ready for bed. So I got her into pajamas, had her brush her teeth, and started to read her a story when she asked for milk. So Jon made her a bottle and put her to bed. He fell asleep while putting her to sleep, woke up and came to the living room to see me, and then fell asleep again on the couch.

Okay, that was the day. Now onto the topic of toilet training. How do you know when a kid is ready to begin toilet training? I've booked a couple of days at the beginning of July to work on toilet training with Isobel, but I'm not sure if she's ready. She's okay with sitting on the potty, although she never sits there long enough to actually go. She understands what it's for; yesterday after sitting on it she'd say "flush". And I suspect she may know when she needs to have a bowel movement, but I'm still not sure if twenty months old is too young for her. I suppose I should just take the days to try and if she's not ready try again in the fall.

224/365 - With The Sun Girls

Michelle, Isobel, Cally, Ashley and April.

I went to work. April, her sister and her two cousins came over to our house to watch Isobel today. They went to the park to feed bunnies and did a lot of playing.

When I got home, Isobel didn't even seem to care. She was having so much fun bossing the girls around. Poor Michelle, was stuck in the ball tent for a long time, while Isobel would bring her stuffed toys to keep her company. I have never seen Isobel so hyper for so long; she fell a few times and didn't even notice (normally she wants a bit of cuddling).

After the girls left, she got a little clingy with me as a result of being so tired. I let her have a freezie, hoping that the sugar would keep her awake until after dinner, but she fell asleep on my lap, while on a video call with my parents, as Jon got home while still drinking her freezie from a straw (.http://www.flickr.com/photos/vancouvergeek/4701740719/).

We managed to get her to bed in her clothes and got her to sleep just after 6pm. Although she did wake up a couple of times and need to be soothed back to sleep, it was really nice to have some extra time with Jon. Now I just have to figure out how to get the Sun Girls to spend time with Isobel again.

223/365 - Outing for Mommy and Fingerpainting

Isobel slept in this morning.

Robyn and I went to see Sex and the City 2 this afternoon. The first movie and the series were a lot better than this movie, but it was a nice break.

Isobel and I did some finger painting in the late afternoon.

Jon made beef stew for dinner, under Isobel's supervision.

After Isobel went to bed, Jon and I played a couple of games of his early father's day present, Pandemic.

222/365 - Goodbyes to the Larson-O'Hagan Clan

I slept in this morning while Jon tended to Isobel. I'm horrible at always wanting to sleep in on weekends, but with starting work early during the week I'm exhausted by Saturday.

We lounged around in the morning and I made a papaya, mango and black bean salad to bring to the party we went to in the evening.

We then headed to Kits to check out KidsBooks as we haven't been there in a really long time and Drexoll Games. On the walk back to the car, stopped at a school's playground so that Isobel could go down the slide a bunch of times.

We then headed to Chris and Annie's for the family portion of their Farewell Party. Isobel played shy for a while, but eventually warmed up and was able to wander around on her own without freaking out over their puppy. She actually even petted the dog a few times. And ate watermelon for dinner; it's all she wanted. In this picture she's with Rowan and Mira.

Jon and I then dropped off Isobel at Cynthia's for the evening and returned for the adult part of the goodbye party. It was nice to see a bunch of faces we haven't seen in a while.

Happy for the Larson-O'Hagan's that everything about their move to Saskatoon seems to be going really well; but sad for us as we're going to miss them. Annie and Chris were amazing when Isobel was first born and I think saved our sanity a bunch of times. Wish them the best of luck in their new home and plan on visiting them when we drive to my parents one year.

When we picked up Isobel from Cynthia's she was sleeping beside Nicholas. She seemed to have a lot of fun and hardly woke up on the way home. Thanks Cynthia!

221/365 - Time for Bed

Left work early with a headache. Jon and Isobel picked me up. I had enough time to take a tylenol and sleep for an hour before Jon had to go to work.

I feel like a horrible mother, but Isobel asked very cutely to watch Fanastic Mr Fox and I let her watch it twice. It gave me time to get the dishes done.

When Jon got home, he bbqed some chicken and corn while I chopped up a pepper salad and cooked some potatoes.

Took a bath with Isobel, but she wasn't keen on the idea. Jon suspects she doesn't like the bubbles in bubble baths. Jon put her to bed a little later than I had hoped as she didn't nap during the day. Jon and I were then able to play a couple of boardgames before we went to bed.

220/365 - Brushing Her Teeth

Jon stayed home sick today. He ate too many of the Oreo cheesecake cupcakes I made on the weekend and was suffering for it. I ended up with a headache and stuffed up sinuses. I took a Tylenol when I got home and took a nap. Jon woke me up so that he could go play a Star Wars game with the boys.

Isobel hadn't taken a nap during the day. She was really cranky and did not want me to put on her pajamas at 6pm. We played for a little while and then she wanted to brush her teeth. Next she wanted a bottle, at which point I told her it meant going to bed. She still wanted it even though it was only 7pm. So we went to bed. I had to read her "Time for Bed, Isobel" a whole bunch of times, listen to some asking for daddy, and listen to her cry. But eventually she snuggled up to me and went to sleep. I was out in the living room by 8pm and watched Young Victoria while I waited for Jon to get home.

217/365 - Daddy's Girl

Yup, she's a daddy's girl. Just like her mommy was. However, liking the Canucks will not convince her daddy to let her stay up late; it would work if her grandpa was visiting though. And if we had cable so they could watch a game.

Went to work. Picked up Isobel at Matty's after getting off a little late. April was impressed that Isobel can also say phone and on.

Isobel fell asleep on the way home, so we stopped at the mall parking lot and waited for Jon to get off work. She woke up a few minutes before his office closed, so we left the car and the mall and walked to his work.

Had leftover chicken pot pie for dinner. Jon and I were both tired, but Isobel didn't fall asleep until 9pm - probably as a result of her late nap.

216/365 - Rainy Sunday

Isobel woke up earlier than we would have liked. Her and I got up and let Jon stay in bed for a while. I made toast for Isobel (she ate almost two whole pieces minus the crust by herself) and then we played.

Jon got out of bed around 9am and I took his place. I managed to fall back asleep and really didn't want to get up over two hours later.

We picked up Angel and then headed to Commercial Drive for Italian day. It was a little too crowded for my tastes and when the rain started to come down we left. Got home and just wanted to be lazy - which is sometimes hard to do with a toddler around.

I gave Isobel a bath while Jon showered and shaved. Isobel played for a little while and then Jon put her to bed.

215/365 - Cupcakes and Auntie April

Isobel slept in until after 7am this morning.

I managed to get a couple more chicken pot pies made this morning while Jon took down the garbage and recycling.

In the afternoon, April came over and entertained Isobel while I baked some cupcakes. I made some chocolate Dr Pepper cupcakes with chocolate frosting and some Oreo cheesecake cupcakes. I should have baked the regular sized Oreo cupcakes longer and they're still a bit gooey in the middle, but the bite sized ones are perfect. Also, the Dr Pepper cupcakes do not taste like Dr Pepper but called for cola as an ingredient.

We went to Minoru Park to look for bunnies. Went to the playground there as well. Came home and tried out the grill to cook dinner. We let Isobel watch Fantastic Mr Fox while eating dinner to show April how long Isobel will sit still while watching it. She didn't make it quite to the end of the movie however as she was exhausted (probably because she's refused to nap the last couple of days).

Jon quickly put Isobel to bed and then we played a game of Agricola before April went home.

214/365 - Isobel's Fashion Sense

I could not fall asleep last night. Even though I was exhausted every time I'd start to fall asleep I would have problems breathing (stupid cold) and would wake myself up. It was after 2am before I finally even fell asleep.

Took some holiday hours off work today so that I could watch Isobel while Jon went to work. I was really hoping she'd nap for me. But no such luck. So we ate some lunch and then I started going through her closet. I set aside some clothes that she's outgrown (or close enough), unpacked all the 18-24 month stuff, and then organized the bigger stuff into various boxes.

Isobel decided to help by playing with this winter jacket and hat. I also tried a dress on her (which she wanted to wear with her winter boots). So we ended up having a little fashion shoot. Isobel then started getting cranky, so I tried to get her to nap again. And again, no success and she got a second wind.

She dozed in the stroller ride to pick up Jon from work. Grabbed a few groceries on the way home and ate the leftover tuna casserole and some toast for dinner.

213/365 - 19 Months Old

Made it to work today. Angel watched Isobel for us. I met them at the park on my way home.

Stopped at the mall and got Isobel a mango julius and some edamame. She devoured all the edamame.

After Jon got home from work we went to the grocery store. Had roast chicken for dinner. Took Isobel's 19 month old photo, played a little bit, and then brushed her teeth. Jon's just putting her to bed now.

212/365 - Another Sick Day for Me

Although Isobel seemed to be fine.

I could not get comfortable enough to get into a deep sleep last night; I'd doze for between 2 to 30 minutes and then wake up too hot, too cold, with a runny nose, or because my head was in pain. Needless to say, I stayed home again.

I did however intend to do some work from home by logging in remotely. Angel ended up calling and saying that she wasn't going to be able to make it in and Isobel only let me work for so long. Actually, it wasn't just Isobel preventing me from working - I ended up with a major sinus headache and just looking at the computer screen was painful.

I felt like a horrible mother for letting Isobel watch so much tv, but she wanted to watch Fantastic Mr. Fox so we watched it 1.5 times before she got bored. She was also fustrated with me, that I wasn't eager to play with her doll house with her and kept wanting to rest.

Somehow I managed to get our sheets washed (my theory that I no longer wanted to sleep with cold germs) and a dinner of tuna casserole made.

Isobel also refused to nap for me today. Her and I laid down with a bottle, but after 30 minutes she was dozing and had only drunk half the bottle. So I took the bottle away which started a crying fit and meant she was wide awake even after returning the bottle to her. So much for mommy's nap.

Jon gave her a bath and washed her hair. Read a little bit of Curious George and then, she fell asleep within minutes of putting her to bed. Jon then sent me to bed with two extra strength tylenols.

211/365 - Sick

Stayed home sick today. Although I did go in for an hour to do some training that had to be done before Wednesday.

I think Isobel may have a bit of the cold as well as she keeps sneezing and every once and a while has a runny nose.

She was a good girl and took a couple of hour nap with me in the afternoon. Although I think it took four bottles before she finally fell asleep.
