Today was my birthday. Not the greatest day at work, but not too bad. Lori brought me in some war cake for my birthday (I love her war cake) and Brian bought me breakfast. And then we were busy with the never ending project we've been working on that just reveals more and more issues. Oh well....
Got home and managed to get Isobel to sleep for a tiny nap. She discovered crawling into her oven as well as the night stand cupboard. I'm wondering if I should empty out her bath room cupboard as another place for her to hide in.
We then got ready to go out and stopped off at the courtyard for some playing before meeting Jon at Mad Greek for dinner. Jon was just coming into the building as we were leaving as he got off work a little early. Mom treated us to a nice birthday dinner and then Jon and I walked up to Imperial Hobbies to play board games for the evening while grandma took Isobel home.
Isobel went to bed without any problems for my mom, but then woke up as we got home and wanted to sleep with us.

148/365 - Hiding in Cupboards
I did not have a good day at work. But that's okay as there's only one work day left for me this week so I should survive. Having a meeting go into my lunch hour did not help either - I get really cranky if not fed at regular intervals.
I got home and Isobel decided to show me her new game - hiding in her nightstand cupboard. It actually used to be my nightstand as a child. It's an antique washing station with a section for a towel at the top back; and once upon a time a pitcher and basin would have sit on it. When I was younger I accidentally spilled nail polish remover on the top of it ruining it's finish. So my dad (with a little help from me) sanded it down, stained it a lighter colour to match my other furniture, and then rubbed varnish onto it. It's always been one of my favorite pieces of furniture. I also still have my baby dresser, now Isobel's dresser, that my dad also sanded down and refinished for me.
Isobel got her sixth tooth today. Her top left molar has completely broken through the surface of her gums. No wonder she's been so cranky the last few days. (Although not nearly as cranky as I was when teething if you ask my mom).
Isobel and I walked to the park before dinner to feed the bunnies while my mom took a nap. Isobel napped for her today, after her lunch, for about forty minutes. And didn't even need a bottle to fall asleep with, just rocked.
Jon got home and made perogies and sausages for dinner. Isobel fell off her stool and was really upset so I didn't think she was going to eat any of her dinner, but she surprised me and ate quite a bit.
Isobel and Jon took a bath and then she played for a little while. Jon's just putting her to bed now.

147/365 - Hair Stickers
The weather was mostly miserable today. It would pour rain and then clear up for a while and then pour again. Plus it was cold and windy.
Isobel and grandma stayed inside today thanks to the weather. They baked sugar cookies. Since I left late for work in the morning, I stayed late and wasn't home at Isobel's normal nap time. However, grandma was able to get her to nap for a while. She woke up as I turned the key in the door.
We ate some of the sugar cookies they had baked, and then Isobel started putting stickers in her hair. She even decided that we needed stickers in our hair.
We had meatballs and rice for dinner. Isobel didn't touch the rice but ate almost two full meatballs by herself. She then devoured a kiwi for desert.
She was pretty crabby for grandma today, but not too bad for us. She did not want to get into her pajamas, but fell asleep quickly when Jon put her to bed.
Jon and I then went down to the pool for a while.

146/365 - Bopomo and Dinner at Nana's
We had a busy day. Isobel woke up screaming "Dad" just as we were going to bed at midnight. I went in and spent an hour and a half trying to get her back to sleep before Jon took over. And she still didn't sleep in.
We all drove out to pick up my mom from Langley in the morning and then into Vancouver for a photo shoot at Bopomo. Isobel slept on the way to Langley and then woke up for the drive to Vancouver. I was really hoping that she would be tired enough to sleep the entire car trip, but no such luck.
Allison and the boys joined us at Bopomo to get the kid's picture taken. And then we headed to Jon's mom's for dinner. As Isobel didn't nap a lot, she was really tired and we left early.

145/365 - Jon's Gaming Day
Isobel woke up early last night so Jon ended up sleeping with her and from the sounds of it she slept fitfully all night.
Jon had gaming today (one Saturday of every month). Isobel and I walked there with him, with a few stops along the way. We decided not to stay and watch as there were a lot of people and Isobel kept running to the door. So her and I walked home.
We then played outside on the patio for a little while. Blowing bubbles and pushing Muk Muk in her stroller.
Had a video call with my dad and Isobel started to fall asleep. So her and I laid down and slept for about an hour.
Got up and started playing when Jon got home from gaming. Ordered pizza and did some finger painting while we waited for dinner. Isobel and I were just getting into the bath to wash off the finger paint when the pizza arrived.
Watched some more Mad Men and did a little laundry. Jon put Isobel to bed while I showered - I didn't manage to get all of the paint off of me in the bath.

144/365 - Calm before the storm
It was my supervisor's birthday at work today. Jon and Isobel picked me up after dropping my mom off in Surrey for her weekend visit with one of her friends.
On the way home, we decided to stop and take some photos of Isobel. She wasn't really in the mood though and it was windy. So we headed home, after checking out Iona Beach as a possible future photo location.
Got home and made veggie stir fry with rice for dinner. Belly wasn't interested in it. We finished the episode of Mad Men we had started yesterday and then headed to the grocery store. Picked up a few items, including a roasted chicken for Isobel. Which she ate almost half of herself when we got home.
Jon put her to bed, as usual, while I remade our bed with clean sheets.
Also, Isobel's top left molar is almost through - I still have to see it yet though. Just reporting on what my mom and Jon observed today.

143/365 - Afternoon Swim
Another day at work. Lots to do, but I did not feel as overwhelmed as I did yesterday. I'm debating about working one day next weekend, but really don't want to; I just should to get a few things done.
Isobel and grandma took the sky train to Surrey today to visit a friend and ex-coworker of my mom's. They met me at the airport and we went home together.
Jon still was not feeling great this morning so he stayed home sick. He was better by the time we got home, so we took Isobel down to the pool in our complex. She seemed to have a lot of fun.
Grandma was nice enough to take Isobel back upstairs once she was done and let us stay in the pool for a little while.
Isobel helped Jon make banana pancakes for dinner. My mom was happy as she likes pancakes, but my dad doesn't think that they're dinner food so she never gets them for dinner. Plus Jon's good at making pancakes (since he stole the good recipe from Isobel's godfather).
Today was the second night in a row that Isobel didn't ask to breastfeed until just before bed. Maybe weaning her will be easier than I feared.
Watched a little bit of Mad Men season 3 and am going to try to go to bed soon as I'm really tired. Glad tomorrow is Friday.

142/365 - Mommy's Trip to the Dentist
Isobel woke up at 2am so grandma went to sleep on the couch and Jon slept with Isobel. I went to work this morning. We had a goodbye lunch for a coworker at Cucumber Cafe and then I got a ride to the sky train station to wait for Jon (who had called in sick due to stomach/bowel issues) and Isobel.
We headed into downtown for my dentist appointment. Isobel fell asleep just as we got there and slept through the entire appointment.
Stopped at Baguette Time for dinner. Isobel got her own sandwich - egg and cheese which she ate a tiny bit of. The picture above shows Isobel's hand up my shirt; she started to want to breastfeed but was distracted with food.
We took a crowded sky train home. Stopped at the mall to pick up some carrots (for the bunnies) and a stir fry pack for tomorrow's dinner. Walked home through the park so that Isobel could feed some bunnies.
Chopped up some fruit this evening for a fruit salad with Isobel's help. Although, she ended up sampling some of the fruit instead of putting it into a container.

141/365 - Typical Day
When I left for work this morning my mom was sleeping on the couch; Isobel headbutted her out of bed.
Worked and got a ride home with a coworker. Tried to get Isobel to fall asleep on the bed while breastfeeding, but she woke up before I could get off the bed and did not want to go back to sleep. So we went for a walk to the park instead. Grandma stayed home and Isobel wanted to walk there. (This morning, while I was at work, she would go crawl into her stroller even though it was earlier than her normal morning walk of late).
Isobel saw a bunny as soon as we got to the park and took off after it; after first pointing it out to me to make sure I knew what she wanted to go first. We fed the bunny some baby carrots and then headed to our usual bunny place. Isobel had fun chasing the bunnies with carrots. She's gotten quite brave and wants to have the bunnies take the carrot right from her hand instead of dropping it for them. She will also pick up carrots she's dropped for them if they don't notice the carrot and move it closer to them. I'm beginning to wonder if we should have named her after Alice in Wonderland as I'm scared she's going to chase a bunny down a rabbit hole one of these days.
After running out of carrots, she eventually relented to the idea of going home. And decided that I deserved the honour of carrying her.
She helped me make some buscuits when we got home. She enjoyed dumping the measured out ingredients into the bowl, but refused to get her hands dirty by kneading the dough.
She didn't seem interested in her left over stew for dinner, but did eat almost two full buns by herself. We watched more of Bones durring dinner.
After letting her play a little bit, Jon put her to bed early since she missed her nap. I later fell asleep on the couch before going to bed myself.

140/365 - First Haircut
Today was departure day for the Paralympics. Not that busy so I was only on the curb for a short while.
Mom called me this afternoon to say that her and Isobel would meet me at the mall after work. I managed to get a ride with a coworker that had started early for departure day. Isobel was asleep in her stroller and mom was waiting for me. Isobel had had most of an ice cream and then fell asleep eating it.
We walked home through the park, but did not have to feed the bunnies as Belly was asleep. She napped for over an hour and a half.
She was a little cranky when she woke up, so we let her blow bubbles on the patio and later gave her a popsicle. She also had her first haircut this afternoon; my mom cut her bangs so Isobel could see. They're not straight, thanks to a roaming toddler who refuses to sit still. But I can see her eyes now. It really changes the way she looks.
Isobel helped me get the toppings for our burritos ready; she grated some cheese (while not eating the block), and put the red peppers and lettuce chunks into bowls for me. And then Jon cooked the meat when he got home from work.
After dinner, I gave Isobel a quick bath. Jon's just putting her to bed now.

139/365 - Helping Daddy Make Dinner
This morning I drove out to Chilliwack to pick up my mom and Isobel. Had a nice lunch at Alida's and watched Isobel crawl up and down their stairs on her own before heading back home.
After stopping to feed some bunnies Jon, Isobel and I set off to check out Minoru Pool, but their hours have been adjusted for Spring Break and instead of having 30 minutes in the tot pool, it was closed for another hour. We decided not to wait. Also learned that there is no family change room there, but they are looking at trying to put one in.
We walked to the grocery store and picked up a couple of items required to make dinner. On the way home it was pouring rain.
Isobel helped Jon make stew for dinner. I brought her stool over to the kitchen counter so she could hand him vegetables for peeling and chopping. She would then put the peelings into the garbage for him. She had a blast and kept asking for more peelings to dispose of.
And then she stole the oven mitts to wear around the house. Here's hoping that she'll enjoy cooking more than I do. She also surprised me by eating all of her stew and then asking for a second helping; I wonder it that's because she helped make it, was really hungry, or really likes stew. She kept making her yummy food noise while eating it.

138/365 - Games Day
Second picture in a row without Isobel in it. This morning, we drove my mom and Isobel out to Chilliwack to spend the day and night with Alida and family. And then we rushed home to meet up with some friends who were due for a board game/house warming day. It was strange to be without Isobel for the whole day, especially since we had a date night the night before. It feels like I've hardly seen her this weekend. I'm already looking forward to picking her up tomorrow.

137/365 - Bronze Sledge Hockey Game Date Night
Both Jon and I had the day off work. I was able to sleep in. When I got up, we went grocery shopping. And then walked to Kins with Isobel and grandma to pick up some fruit and veggies. Isobel and grandma went for a longer walk to feed more bunnies while we cleaned. Did not get as much cleaning done as I had hoped before they returned with a stinky diaper for me to change (I think it was the first one since my mom came into town that I had to change).
Isobel decided to help me wipe down her mat; which meant she dumped all the water onto it and wanted more water for dumping. She did also use a cloth to swish the water around.
I laid down with Isobel and got her to nap about 3pm. At that time, Jon and I sneaked out for our date night.
I had gotten tickets to the Bronze Medal Sledge Hockey game through work. We stopped for a late lunch/early dinner at Mongolie Grill (very yummy) and then headed to UBC.
We arrived hours before the game; as instructed by VANOC. So we ended up hanging out at Starbucks and playing a couple rounds of "Race for the Galaxy" that we brought with us.
Our seats were great. There was one row of seats in front of us and then the photographers on the floor. We were right by the Norwegian net.
Never seeing a sledge hockey game before I wasn't sure what to expect. I really enjoyed myself and have a lot of respect for the athletes. It was a very exciting game to watch and I was starting to get worried when we got to the end of the second period and no goals had been scored.
And then at the beginning of the third period, Canada scored. And we got cocky. Being Canadian, I had just assumed that the sledge hockey team was slated for the gold medal. And then when I heard that they lost to Japan and were in the Bronze game, I naturally assumed that I would see my second Canadian bronze medal of the games. And then Norway got a penalty shot and scored. Not so cocky now, but still assumed that the Canadian team would score in overtime. As the third period went on, I was thinking how tough it must be for the Norwegian team to be playing a team I assumed would have won gold on Canadian soil. While there were a few Norway flags in the stands, they were greatly outnumbered by Canadian flags and supporters. And then with 3.6 seconds left in the game, Norway scored and I lost the opportunity to watch Canada win a bronze medal. At that moment, while sad about Canada's lost, I could not help but to emulate how proud Team Norway must have felt. The looks of excitement on their athletes' faces and just the general sense of accomplishment they must have been feeling was contagious. It was a great experience and even though Canada lost, I'm proud of their effort, and was inspired by the show of sportsmanship.
We bused to the sky train to get home. I was relieved to find out that Isobel was asleep when we got home and that she had been well behaved for my mom. Apparently, she hardly missed us.

I laid down with Isobel and got her to nap about 3pm. At that time, Jon and I sneaked out for our date night.
I had gotten tickets to the Bronze Medal Sledge Hockey game through work. We stopped for a late lunch/early dinner at Mongolie Grill (very yummy) and then headed to UBC.
We arrived hours before the game; as instructed by VANOC. So we ended up hanging out at Starbucks and playing a couple rounds of "Race for the Galaxy" that we brought with us.
Our seats were great. There was one row of seats in front of us and then the photographers on the floor. We were right by the Norwegian net.
Never seeing a sledge hockey game before I wasn't sure what to expect. I really enjoyed myself and have a lot of respect for the athletes. It was a very exciting game to watch and I was starting to get worried when we got to the end of the second period and no goals had been scored.
And then at the beginning of the third period, Canada scored. And we got cocky. Being Canadian, I had just assumed that the sledge hockey team was slated for the gold medal. And then when I heard that they lost to Japan and were in the Bronze game, I naturally assumed that I would see my second Canadian bronze medal of the games. And then Norway got a penalty shot and scored. Not so cocky now, but still assumed that the Canadian team would score in overtime. As the third period went on, I was thinking how tough it must be for the Norwegian team to be playing a team I assumed would have won gold on Canadian soil. While there were a few Norway flags in the stands, they were greatly outnumbered by Canadian flags and supporters. And then with 3.6 seconds left in the game, Norway scored and I lost the opportunity to watch Canada win a bronze medal. At that moment, while sad about Canada's lost, I could not help but to emulate how proud Team Norway must have felt. The looks of excitement on their athletes' faces and just the general sense of accomplishment they must have been feeling was contagious. It was a great experience and even though Canada lost, I'm proud of their effort, and was inspired by the show of sportsmanship.
We bused to the sky train to get home. I was relieved to find out that Isobel was asleep when we got home and that she had been well behaved for my mom. Apparently, she hardly missed us.

136/365 - Paralympic Flame
I had hoped on seeing the Paralymic torch relay last week, but horrible rain thwarted my plans. So this Thursday, we decided to show my mom the cauldron.
After work today I was able to get Isobel down for an hour and a half nap on our bed. Plus I was able to leave her for most of the nap.
We then headed out to meet Jon after work to head into the city. We took the long way, so that Isobel could feed some bunnies and I could buy her some raisins that my mom had gotten a sample of earlier in the day and that Isobel enjoyed. She ate two little boxes worth of raisins on the way to meet Jon.
Headed downtown on a very crowded train; I think there was a hockey game. Had dinner and then checked out the Olympic Cauldron. The line up to see it was virtually non-existent; much better than the last time Jon, Isobel and I went. Isobel seemed to have fun running around.
We then went to check out the zip trek line over Robson Square, but it was closed. Decided against looking at the mint pavilion (which has now moved to the main library and was scheduled to close in an hour). Instead we stopped at Chapters and bought Isobel some books with the plan of trying to keep her entertained on the sky train ride home. It mostly worked. Got home and Jon put her to bed.

135/365 - Happy Saint Patrick's Day
Another day at work. I finished later than I would have liked to. A friend of my mom's came over this afternoon to visit (and got a little lost finding our place) so that pushed back my plans for this afternoon.
Isobel took an hour nap on me when I got home; I could have used a nap too as my eyes kept shutting. Just before 5pm, I woke her up as I wanted her to fall asleep tonight. So we bundled up and headed out to enjoy the sunshine. We went to The Diaso at Aberdeen Center and grandma bought Isobel some toy food for her kitchen. Jon did not check his email before leaving work, as I had feared, and he didn't know that we weren't at home. So he headed home, without a set of keys, and there was no one there. He called me and agreed to meet us at the last skytrain station as we were just leaving.
On the way home, we took the above Saint Patrick's day photo at the pub near our apartment. Jon made pasta for dinner and we watched some episodes of Bones. Isobel went to bed a lot later than I would have liked and insisted that I be the one to lay down with her.
I had originally hoped that Jon and I would be able to go for a nice walk together tonight, but I'm too tired. Especially with Isobel getting to bed so late. Approximately four years ago, Jon and I got together. He counts the anniversary date as today whereas I insist it wasn't until March 18 since that's when we first kissed (he says since it was following events that took place on March 17 and since he had not gone to sleep yet it still counts as March 17); but technically I"m correct since it was after midnight. Also March 18, the next night, was our first actual date.

134/365 - Afternoon Park Walk
Had my mom and Isobel drive me to work as I was running really late and was hoping that if everyone left, Jon would get some more sleep. After getting home, Isobel eventually also curled up with Jon and slept.
My mom and Isobel picked me up from work. At home, Isobel would tell me what a cat says and then she napped on me. WHen my moving around woke her up, we headed to the park to feed the bunnies and then the mall. Isobel had a small ice cream and a mango julius courtesy of grandma.
Got home a little bit before Jon, who then made us perogies for dinner.
After Isobel finally went to bed for the night, Jon and I went to the pool for a while. I always forget how much I love the water until I get into the pool. We stayed down there a little longer than we maybe should have and then stayed up watching episodes of Bones. I'm going to be really tired tomorrow.

133/365 - Adventures and Bunnies
Monday's mean back to work. Isobel was still sleeping when I left for work this morning. I was very glad to get home this afternoon and spend some time with her.
Her and grandma had a busy day today; they walked daddy to the corner this morning and then went in search of bunnies. They walked around the park for an hour, but alas no bunnies to be found. They came home and then blew bubbles on the balcony, had some lunch and then checked out the courtyard.
Isobel took a short breastfeeding nap when I got home. And then we headed out again. The intention was to show grandma where the library is so that her and Isobel can check out story time this week. However, we walked through the park and managed to find a lot of bunnies that Isobel needed to feed. In fact, several of the bunnies needed to be fed by Isobel more than once or twice. She had so much fun and didn't want to leave the bunnies. Fortunately, she's easily distracted and the mini-temper tantrum for having to leave the bunnies didn't last long.
We eventually made it to the library and Isobel played there for a few minutes. On the way home, grandma picked us up some buns and green grapes. Isobel yummed up the green grapes on the way home. I was hoping to be able to eat more of those grapes, but they're nice and sweet and Isobel was very keen on them.
We got home before Jon and I started dinner of rice and meatballs. Jon arrived home and finished dinner. We ate and then while my mom gave Isobel her bath, Jon and I went to the gym and spent some time on the treadmill. We arrived back upstairs to find a clean, pajama wearing Isobel brushing her teeth with grandma.
Jon's just trying to get her to sleep right now (not going so well) and then we're taking a quick shower before relaxing and bed.

132/365 - Isobel's Early Second Birthday Present
The tricycle is Isobel's second birthday present from grandma and grandpa. I let her sit on it today and then we put it in the storage locker; she wasn't happy about that. But at least I know she'll like it once she grows into it. If she's still too short at two years old for it, we'll see if Matty can build her foot blocks for the pedals.
Jon went and picked up my mom from Langley this morning. And then they picked us up and we went over to the North Shore for some shopping. We got our Christmas present from my parents - a set of TV trays. Isobel got her early Easter present - wooden sliceable fruit. And picked materials up a couple of projects for my mom - a retro apron for a costume birthday party we're to attend this summer and a mouse Halloween costume for Isobel.
Got home and folded some laundry. Since Jon and I were planning on going to a movie tonight, we thought it would be best if we all left together; my mom would take Isobel for a walk to see the ducks and bunnies while Jon and I continued on to the mall to kill some time before the movie started.
We saw "Alice in Wonderland". I enjoyed it, but do not think it's a kids movie. It was nice to be able to see a movie. And Isobel was actually asleep when we got home - I was expecting to find a cranky tired toddler when we got home. That's not to say that she went to bed easily for my mom, but she did fall asleep while being rocked and amid crying for mom and dad and sobbing. But it still took less time for my mom to get her to sleep that it did some nights for me when Jon was on the night shift.
I'm also really debating about getting my mom to cut bangs for Isobel this week. We're having her picture taken at the end of the month and I really don't want it in her face then.

131/365 - First Time Finger Painting
Jon couldn't sleep so he got up and played on the computer and then crawled into bed with Isobel who didn't wake up until 6:30am, just before I left for work.
I worked until 3pm - working on a Saturday sucks. And forgot that I had the other set of keys in my purse and left Jon with no keys so him and Belly were trapped in the apartment all day.
After I got home, we decided to bundle up and go feed the bunnies at the park. And surprise, surprise as soon as we got outside it started raining. By the time we got to the park it was pouring and any bunny we saw ended up running away. So we headed back home.
And set up finger painting for Isobel. It was lots of fun and very messy. She was much more keen on painting on herself than the paper, but that's okay as lots still ended up on the paper. I think Jon enjoyed it as well as I had to strip down to avoid getting paint all over my clothes.
After finishing Isobel and I took a bath while Jon cleaned up the painting supplies. Isobel then ended up in pajamas earlier than normal. We made her bunny mac and cheese for dinner.
She ended up getting cranky, so Jon put her to bed and we played some Final Fantasy 13 - it's very pretty, but not as good as the others (not that I've played many of them).

130/365 - Hand Washing
Isobel likes to wash her hands and brush her teeth. Not that I'm complaining.
Isobel came into our room this morning just as I was getting ready for work. So I ended up going in late so that I could spend some time snuggling with her first.
Jon and Isobel drove my mom out to Langley for the weekend; we'll pick her up on Sunday.
They also came and collected me from work this afternoon. Brian's dog, Jonah, was still there when the arrived. It took Isobel a little while, but with Brian's help she was able to stand on the floor near Jonah and not freak out. And if Jonah ran away she wanted to go find him. She was still a little apprehensive of him, but much better than previous visits. And Jonah did so well with Isobel, especially when you realize that she was taunting him with the piece if chocolate chip cookie that Lynda had given her.
We then decided to drive out to Steveson since it was so nice out. Isobel had lots of fun going down the slides at the playground with us. It's this huge playground that we'll have to go back to lots. And then we checked out the toy store where Jon got her her baby stroller. And we'll have to go back there. Then got some candy - including Isobel's chocolate - that's what she's washing off her hands in this picture.
Returned a horrible video (only rented as someone I went to high school wrote it and I have to say it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen - we watched most of it on fast forward to save ourselves the pain) and grabbed a chicken for dinner. I also found a baby store I want to look at next time; Belly was too hungry and cranky to let me look.
We watched "Where the Wild Things Are" tonight. I enjoyed it. And Isobel thought the monsters were puppies.

After sleeping a little bit, and having Isobel throw herself on me when I went to the bathroom, I figured it would be better to stay home today instead. So it looks like I'm working on Saturday this week. Oh well.....
We walked Jon part of the way to work and picked up the car from getting serviced. My mom asked if I would drive her out to White Rock to visit with some of her old coworkers, so off we headed. We had a nice little visit at Black Bond Books and Isobel left with a few books thanks to her grandma. We then decided to check out the Walmart there. Ended up leaving with a bunch of stuff for Belly.
Got home and rested for a bit and then decided to head out early to pick up Jon from work so we could stop and feed the bunnies some of the food grandma had bought for them earlier and wander around Lansdowne. Within thrity seconds of getting outside it started raining. We still went to the park so that Isobel could feed the bunnies. By the time we got to Jon's work to let him know we'd meet him at the mall we were soaked.
At the mall, I ended up buying Isobel a new outfit so she'd have dry clothes. My parents bought Isobel her birthday present (a tricycle) that we have to store for them until November. We ended up having dinner at the mall and decided to stay in Richmond instead of my original idea of sky training it to Vancouver to watch the Paralympic torch relay. By the time we left the mall it was pouring again - fortunately not as bad as earlier though.
Got home and gave Isobel a bath, read her some stories and Jon put her to bed. I really hope that she sleeps through the night tonight.

128/365 - Cousin's Return from Japan
Isobel crawled into bed with us at 4am this morning. So much for getting good nights of sleeps.
I went into work late this morning so that my mom and Isobel could sky train it to the airport with me as my cousins were due to return to Japan. Their flight was early and my mom thought maybe we missed them. However, I told her it takes a while to clear customs and get luggage so we waited. And I was correct. Natsumi, my cousin's daughter, has grown so much since she left for Japan last year. Isobel wanted Natsumi and her mom, Hiroko, to hold her. Doug, my cousin, was a little surprised that his mom and siblings weren't there yet until he realized how early the flight landed. After my aunt and other cousins arrived, I left for work as I was already really late. On the way I made my mom could find the sky train as she wanted to go into Surrey with Isobel for the day to visit a friend for lunch.
After work, I had a work dinner to go to. It was a departmental thank you for the work we all did over the Olympic period. It was a very nice evening, but a little late. By the time I got home, Isobel had been in bed sleeping for over an hour.

127/365 - Grandma's Birthday
Happy Birthday Mom!
Today both Jon and I were back at work and my mom was home alone with Isobel. I was a little worried that Isobel would be cranky, but apparently she only missed me for two minutes around the time I would normally be getting home from work if I was driving. It sounds like they had lots of fun - Isobel helped Grandma make chicken soup, went for a walk to the park and mall, got a mango julius, had lots of video calls with Grandma's relatives, and did lots of playing.
I got home and of course, Isobel wanted to breastfeed and take a nap. Jon got home just as we were getting ready to go out and meet him. We took my mom out to a birthday dinner at Mad Greek. It was very yummy and very filling.
Grandma got Isobel into her pajamas and then daddy tried to get her to bed. Isobel wasn't interested in going to bed (next week after daylight savings is not going to be fun). Jon and I took a shower while my mom watched Isobel, who would wander into our bathroom and check on us every so often. Jon says we should have waited until she was asleep, but she was fine. That's one of the things I miss about pre-Isobel - the conversations Jon and I used to have in the shower; not that I'd trade her though.

Grandma got Isobel into her pajamas and then daddy tried to get her to bed. Isobel wasn't interested in going to bed (next week after daylight savings is not going to be fun). Jon and I took a shower while my mom watched Isobel, who would wander into our bathroom and check on us every so often. Jon says we should have waited until she was asleep, but she was fine. That's one of the things I miss about pre-Isobel - the conversations Jon and I used to have in the shower; not that I'd trade her though.

126/365 - Training Grandma
Today was Grandma's first full day here. I had the day off. I was woken up by Isobel crawling into bed with us this morning. Although she didn't want to go to sleep for Grandma (daddy had to put her to bed), she didn't seem to have any issues sleeping with Grandma. After Isobel breastfeed a bit this morning, we kicked her out to see grandma so we could sleep some more. Grandma feed Isobel breakfast while we got another hour of sleep.
Jon had to go to work this morning for 10. We walked out of the building with him and the parted ways. Grandma and I took Isobel to this toddler session that a cheer gym runs. Isobel really seemed to enjoy herself on the trampolines and the little slide. I think Grandma is planning on taking Isobel back there again in a couple of weeks.
On the way home we stopped at the mall to pick up a mango julius. It ended up turning into a shopping trip. Grandma bought Isobel a bunch of clothes - although Isobel's favorite item appears to be a pair of sneakers that kind of look like daddy's except pink.
We ended up grabbing lunch at the mall and then headed home. It appeared that Isobel was going to fall asleep in her stroller, but as soon as she realized that we were walking home through the park she perked up. Isobel showed Grandma the ducks and some bunnies.
We rested for a while at home and then tried on some clothes on Isobel. Eventually, we headed downstairs to the courtyard to show Grandma another good place to take Isobel. Isobel had fun getting Grandma to chase her and on the slide.
Upstairs Isobel had some naked time while we waited for Jon to get home. He was later than normal and I was starting to worry, but it sounds like work was busier than normal for him. Had dinner of leftover chicken stew and then Isobel and I took a bath.
She was so tired, since she didn't nap, that Jon put her to bed at 7:30pm.

125/365 - Grandma's Arrival
I stayed up way too late last night. I was falling alseep on the couch watching "Moon", but I really wanted to finish it so forced myself to stay up. I then ended up a little hyper and thought everything was funny; even if it wasn't.
And of course, Isobel was up nice and early this morning. Oh well, she managed to sleep by herself for the entire night so I shouldn't complain.
Jon stayed in bed for a little bit while Isobel and I got up and tried to get a few things done around the house this morning.
Before I knew it, it was time to head to the Airport as my mom was flying in today. On the way we stopped at this grassy area (see picture) near the employee parking lot to see what pictures of Isobel would turn out like there. I like the results and am planning on going back one day when there's a nice bright blue sky.
We arrived to the terminal and stopped off at the Olympic store so I could buy Isobel a small, pink Miga backpack. Although it's still a little too big for her. We then went to meet my mom.
Jon and Isobel hid as my mom approached the luggage carousel. My mom went to find Isobel right away. I think Isobel must have made my mom's day as she wanted her grandma to carry her back to the car, not mommy or daddy.
Dropped my mom's luggage off at home and rested for a bit - actually my mom unpacked all of Isobel's new treasures. And then we headed out to Safeway for some grocery shopping.
And then our car wouldn't start. We got a jump start only to have the car die as I was buckling Isobel into her car seat. So Jon went to look for someone else to give us a boost. We then dropped my mom and Isobel off at home when the car died again (it was in neutral) and then had planned on heading to the dealer's service department in Vancouver. So we ended up bringing the groceries upstairs and tried to figure out what to do next. Jon and I left Isobel with my mom and set off in search of a boost. We discovered that there was a dealership with a service department less than two blocks from our apartment so we stopped off there. They were nice enough to drive us back home and jump start our car so we could get it to the service area, which of course is closed since it's Sunday. So we'll find out tomorrow if it's the battery or the alternator or both.
Went home for a tiny bit to watch Isobel bang away on my mom's laptop as they did a video call with my dad. I'm thinking Grandma may have a hard time taking her laptop home with her as Isobel loved it.
Jon then walked me to the sky train so I could work the afternoon/evening shift.

124/365 - Last Class of Duck Lessons
We haven't had a lot of luck with the latest batch of swim lessons. Today was the last lesson. Isobel and Jon got into the pool early and Isobel was having lots of fun; she was very proud of herself as she's almost tall enough to stand on her own in one of the sections of the pool (where it's two feet deep). The lesson starts and they're singing "The Wheels on the Bus" when the instructor gets pulled aside by another instructor to let her know that the pool has been compromised and needs to be evacuated. There was some feces in the teach pool. I'm really hoping it happened as the last class was leaving and not before/while Isobel had been playing in that area of the pool. So off to the big pool again. This is the second time in the big, cold pool for this set of lessons. In her previous set of lessons, which had a total of ten sessions (versus this one's nine), we never had to go into the big pool. Isobel really doesn't like the big pool as it's too cold for her, even in her new swimsuit that I was hoping would be warmer for her. She just clung to Jon and would try to crawl onto his head to stay out of the water. So we left early again. At least we tried the big pool, some of the other parents just took their children straight to the change room.
We also got Isobel's swim report card. She passed and can go into the next level after she turns two. The comments this time were more generic though. I preferred our first instructor. I think for the next set of lessons, we'll try the pool that's closer to us in Richmond as they have a teach pool as well. We're planning on checking it out later this month to see what it's like.
After swim lessons, Jon and Isobel dropped me off at work. Learned that a co-worker is expecting their second child in August; their first is a couple of months older than Isobel. He's happy about it, but not looking forward to going through the no sleep stage again and thinks the age his son is at now is much more fun than the newborn stage.
Jon and Isobel then picked me up from work this evening. We picked up a couple of groceries (still have to get the bulk of them tomorrow) and rented a couple of videos. Isobel was not interested in eating a late dinner. So her and I had a bath so I could wash her hair. We read some stories and now Jon's just trying to get her to bed. It's way past her normal bed time, but she napped during her normal dinner time with Jon.

123/365 - Lunch with Daddy
I had today off. I managed to get a bunch of laundry washed. Isobel played with her new doll house and ball tent. She took a nap just before noon. She woke up in time to go meet Jon for his lunch.
We went to the mall for lunch and Isobel signed "more" for cheese. Both Jon and I were very proud and excited to be able to communicate a little better with her. It was the first time that she's signed "more" in a situation that we recognized. It seemed like Isobel was also excited that we understood her.
On our way home, we stopped at the grocery store for a couple of items.
Got home and put the groceries away. We then went downstairs to the courtyard for some playtime outside. Isobel discovered that if she held onto both of my hands she could walk up the board thing that leads to the slide. So she would walk up, slide down (with me mostly holding onto her), and then run back and grab my hands to do it all over again. This went on about half a dozen times before she got tired.
Just before Jon was due home from work, I let Isobel have some naked time. I had thought about giving her a bath, but Jon suggested that we just let her have some naked time and then put her in her pajamas as he suspects that the nightly baths may have aggravated her eczema. I packed up some of her clothes that are too small and unpacked the next size of clothing - some of which looks way too big still but I'm sure she'll grow into in no time.
While Jon was reading her her ladybug counting book, she would point at the duck and say "duck" so I figured it was a good time to get a video of it. Duck video. She then wanted to watch the video over and over again and would sign "more" and say "duck" until we played. Jon put her to bed with a bottle shortly thereafter.
Jon and I set down to play the new board game he bought yesterday, but instead ended up watching some more of Bones: Season Four.

122/365 - Smart Alec
Isobel was up at 6:30am again this morning. Jon slept with her last night after she crawled into bed with us. She was very good for him this morning. She sat on her bed and said "Daddadadada" until he woke up and then asked for "mum mum". He then asked her to lay down so he could change her wet diaper and she listened (she rarely listens to me for diaper changes during the day). He then told her that after he went to the bathroom they would go get me. So she follows him into the bathroom and he asks her to put her pajama bottoms in the dirty laundry and she does. And then they came in and woke me up.
After a bit, Isobel and I got up and let Jon stay in bed for a bit. Isobel wasn't too interested in her Cheerios either this morning. Later on, after Jon was up, I had some instant oatmeal which she helped me eat.
Isobel and I went down to the courtyard this morning so that Jon could vacuum without Isobel freaking out. And of course she wanted to bring her stroller and Miga. After a while, she abandoned her stroller. I then asked her to go get Miga, thinking she'd start pushing the stroller again. But no, she had to be a smart alec and take Miga out of the stroller and carry Miga, again abandoning the stroller. Oh well...next time I should be more specific.
We went back up stairs and Jon shared a banana pudding with Isobel. Jon dumped out our coin tin for sorting and Isobel had lots of fun helping. She got all of the Olympic quarters for her collection and all of the pennies went into her piggy bank (and not at all because we were too lazy to count the pennies).
We then decided to go for a walk. and grab some lunch. Ended up going to Imperial Hobbies where we got a boardgame (Small World) and a kids card game and then headed to the mall for lunch. We then ended up getting Isobel some toys - a Little People house, a small dump truck, some finger paints and paper (for rainy days), and a tent ball thing. She's only a little spoiled. But that's it for toys from us for a while.
Isobel fell asleep on the way back home and was still asleep when it was finally time for me to go to work for the afternoon. She almost woke up when I kissed her goodbye, but luckily for me she fell back asleep. (I don't think Jon would have been to happy to have a cranky girl on his hands).
Tomorrow I'm off with Isobel and Jon's back at work. I'm planning on trying to get some laundry done and clearing a bit of room in Isobel's room for my mom's stuff.

121/365 - 16 Months Old
Isobel was not very co-operative with her monthly photos today. This is the best one, even though the penguin is mostly cut off.
I ended up sleeping with Isobel most of the night as she woke up and started crying before midnight. She then slept unil 6:30am once she fell back asleep.
Jon had an early day this morning. I tried to get Isobel's monthly photo with her penguin out of the way before she got food all over herself.
We went for a morning walk. Got her weighed; 20lb 8oz with clothes (less jacket and boots). So we're thinking it's time to have her car seat face forward finally.
Returned her library books and then went to the mall. Bought Isobel a bathing/wet suit thing for our pool and a Miga t-shirt. And a small mango julius, which she wasn't too keen on sharing. I also picked up some bbq pork steamed buns to try - they're in the freezer for now.
Isobel ate some of her leftover mac and cheese for lunch and then snuggled up to me and breastfeed until she fell asleep. I think her nap lasted about an hour or more. All I know, is that I just had time to get changed for work and take her wet diaper off before Jon got home from work. She was super cranky when she woke up (maybe because I was picking at her in her sleep), so Jon was going to share a popsicle with her once I was gone. Seems to have worked as she sounded cheery when I called.

120/365 - Putting On Her Own Boots
After Isobel went to bed last night, Jon and I ended up playing a few games of Race for the Galaxy. I managed to beat him for the first two, but lost the third. I enjoy playing a game that I can actually beat him at, as he usually beats me at most. It was nice to have some time to ourselves, we really need to do that more often when Isobel is in bed.
Jon ended up sleeping with Isobel last night as I was on call for work and the phone kept ringing. It was very frustrating as I'd just fall asleep and then it would ring. Or the times it didn't ring for four hours, I'd wake up thinking I heard the phone and freak out that I missed a call. Oh well, only two more nights on call this month and then things get back to normal with work.
I refused to get up this morning however. Jon didn't start work until 10am, so he was stuck with a baby. He's too good to me.
As a result of sleeping in, and of Althea's surgery going much better and faster than we had thought, by the time I finally got up and started getting ready for the day, it was too late to meet with with Alida. We'll have to see each other soon though as it's been a while and I know Isobel would be keen on playing with Annika and Ava.
After Jon left for work, Isobel turned into a very cranky little girl. I suspect that her teeth are still bothering her and she was tired. She fell off her horse and was allowed to breastfeed (I'm really trying to cut down on the breastfeeding slowly although still not sure I'll be able to quit at eighteen months). She ended up falling asleep on me until past her normal lunch time.
When she woke up, I made her a frilled cheese sandwich, but she seemed more interested in playing than eating. In the afternoon we went for a walk. Stopped in at daddy's work to say hi; I thought another part of the reason for her being cranky in the morning was that daddy went to work. He had already had his lunch, so we went to the grocery store. They didn't have the kind of juice that Isobel is currently very keen on, so we picked up a couple of other things (her Easter chocolate and a different kind of juice to try) and then walked to the post office. Picked up an envelope to mail off the Olympic pin for my dad, and then headed to the mall. Checked out a few kids stores and then got Isobel a medium mango julius. I thought I'd be able to get some, but she had a death grip on it and didn't seem interested in sharing it with me. Stopped into HMV and treated myself to the fourth season of Bones (we had been debating about getting it and agreed to wait until it was on sale, which it was) and Where the Wild Things Are. Grabbed a couple of buns from Cobbs and then headed to the park.
We only saw three bunnies in the park today. Isobel watched from her stroller as I fed them the two carrots we had brought with us. I tried to get her out of the stroller, but she just wanted to sit, drink her julius, and watch the bunnies. She also showed an interest in trying to pet the bunnies, but I didn't allow that; they are wild after all, even if they appear tame.
Headed home and read The Potty Book over and over while waiting for it to be time for dinner. She also drew on her face with crayons.
While still waiting for daddy, she brought me my shoes and then managed to get her own rubber boots on by herself. They were on the wrong feet, but she didn't seem to care and was very proud of herself. She still needs help getting them off, but insisted on walking around our apartment in her boots for a while. When Jon did arrive home, we were outside on the balcony.
Jon and I had a dinner of perogies (Isobel had eaten Mac and cheese earlier) and then I had a bath with her. Jon managed to get her down for bed after she played a bit and I read her some stories. He's now just waiting for me to finish this.

Grabbed a couple of buns from Cobbs and then headed to the park.
We only saw three bunnies in the park today. Isobel watched from her stroller as I fed them the two carrots we had brought with us. I tried to get her out of the stroller, but she just wanted to sit, drink her julius, and watch the bunnies. She also showed an interest in trying to pet the bunnies, but I didn't allow that; they are wild after all, even if they appear tame.
Headed home and read The Potty Book over and over while waiting for it to be time for dinner. She also drew on her face with crayons.
While still waiting for daddy, she brought me my shoes and then managed to get her own rubber boots on by herself. They were on the wrong feet, but she didn't seem to care and was very proud of herself. She still needs help getting them off, but insisted on walking around our apartment in her boots for a while. When Jon did arrive home, we were outside on the balcony.
Jon and I had a dinner of perogies (Isobel had eaten Mac and cheese earlier) and then I had a bath with her. Jon managed to get her down for bed after she played a bit and I read her some stories. He's now just waiting for me to finish this.

119/365 - Departure Day
I started work this morning at 4am. It wasn't as crazy busy as I thought it would be based on all of the information we had received about departure day at the Salt Lake City Olympics.
I was surprised to see one of my cousins at the airport today. He was on his way to Japan to bring back his family from there. He got to the airport early thinking it would be crazy here and was wondering where all the people where. It was a nice surprise. I'll be sending my mom and Isobel to the airport when he returns with his family to say hello.
When I got home at 3pm, I found Isobel napping on Jon (as pictured). I ended up crawling into bed and napping myself.
Jon and Isobel woke me up around 5pm. Jon made pancakes for dinner. I had a bath with Isobel. And Jon's trying to get her to sleep. I'm looking forward to sleeping myself, although I'm on call for work tonight. I'm really hoping I don't get any phone calls.
