97/365 - Isobel's New Kitchen

Since Isobel was such a good girl when we moved, Jon and I decided we'd get her her own kitchen. She apparently loved playing with Annika and Ava's kitchen. So we set out to look for one at the toy store. And we didn't like any we found; they were plastic and expensive. Eventually, while looking at craft sites, I found homemade kids kitchen sets. I asked Isobel's godfather if he'd make us one for Isobel if we got the supplies. Well he made her one, and very quickly I might add, but didn't need any supplies from us. I guess he really loves Isobel. And it's such a cute kitchen. Plus it's a good size - she'll grow into it and it fits perfectly under the kitchen counter. And Isobel really likes it. Matty used some paint with iron on parts of it so it's magnetic. Thanks Matty; you're awesome!

I got home just after 7am today; it was really nice to drive home instead of taking sky train - 8 minutes versus 40-50 at that time of day. Isobel was snuggled up to Jon in her bed when I got home; to be more precise she had her but in his face. So I closed our bed room door and crawled into bed. And fell asleep.

When I woke up at 12:30, Isobel and Jon were out. They had went to visit with Uncle Matty so that I could sleep and Isobel could see her new kitchen. I quickly got dressed and then started playing video games. They got home shortly thereafter.

I tried to eat the chocolate cupcake Robyn sent us home with yesterday, but Isobel ate almost three quarters of it by herself. I guess if I had had a chocolate cupcake instead of vanilla yesterday, she may have actually shared with me then. The chocolate cupcake was very yummy; what I had of it that is.

This afternoon we picked up Angel and headed out to Park Royal for some shopping. Jon exchanged our version of Doctor Who: The Specials for a disc five that wasn't scratched. It was very frustrating the other day watching it to miss the last ten to fifteen minutes of the last episode. It took me a while to warm up to David Tennant as the Doctor, but now I'm going to miss him as the Doctor. Had I actually known what Doctor Who was, doubt I'd have ever wanted the first season, but I'm glad just the DVD cover and fact that it was British made me want it. I'm totally hooked now; which according to Jon means I have geek tendencies.

Isobel was so happy to see Angel; she didn't nap but spent the afternoon giggling and running around t he mall (we forgot to bring her stroller with us so it was nice to have an extra person to chase after her). Jon and I both got a new pair of shoes. We picked up a pair of gum boots for Isobel - they're her Valentine's Day present, but she can have them early. And a toy pot and pan set for Isobel's kitchen.

We drove Angel to work and then picked up a few groceries on the way home. Feed Isobel a dinner of chicken and macaroni salad while we ate leftover Thai food. Took a bath with Isobel and Jon's now putting her to bed. I'm really glad that I have tomorrow off as I'm tired.

96/365 - Mason's Third Birthday Party

Somehow, Isobel managed to sleep by herself all night last night. I'm hoping that this was not a fluke and she continues to sleep without someone there once she falls asleep.

Today was a busy day. Isobel had her swim lessons in the morning. I made Jon go in the pool with her again. This week's topic was personal floatation devices. Isobel did not enjoy wearing her life jacket - probably because it was heavy for her and kept putting her on her back. Other than that, she seemed to enjoy her lesson.

After swimming, we headed home to pick up parking passes for our apartment building - one for us and one for guests.

After a short rest, we headed out to the Bird's for Mason's Third Birthday party. We arrived a bit early. Mason was really excited for his party and loved watching blown up, untied ballons released.

Isobel seemed to enjoy herself, playing with everything, especially the paper plates and cups. It was a nice visit; once things slow down after the Olympics I'm hoping that we'll be able to visit with the Birds more often.

After the party we headed home. Isobel was a bit cranky and due for a nap. Jon took her for a walk so that I could nap though. I woke up about fifteen minites before they got home, freaked out that they weren't home yet.

Had some dinner and then Jon bathed Isobel while I took a shower. It was really cute, Isobel was using her washcloth to clean Jon's face and knees for him. I took Isobel out and got her into her pajamas so that Jon could add some hot water and soak by himself for a couple of minutes.

Jon put Isobel to bed and fell asleep with her. I went in and woke him up so that I could tuck him into our bed. And then I played video games until it was time to go to work. This is my first graveyard shift in a very long time. So far it's okay, but I'm looking forward to sleeping tomorrow morning when I get home.

95/365 - Belly and Mommy

I'm glad today was a day off. I'm so tired. Not looking to next week's graveyard shifts; which actually starts tomorrow. Oh well, we'll survive.

Not too much to report for today. Jon slept with Isobel for me last night. And then brought her into our bed around 7am. At 8am, Isobel and I left Jon to doze while she ate her breakfast. We then woke Jon up just before 9 so he could get ready for work.

Today, Isobel decided that Sumi and Miga also needed to breastfeed. I wonder if that means they're over the cold she thought they had.

We got a load of laundry done. And played until it was time to go met Jon for lunch at 2pm. Isobel kept wanting to push the camera picture button, and eventually settled with sitting on my lap while I took a couple pictures of the two of us.

We did a bit of shopping on our way home and Isobel fell asleep after the grocery store stop. She was still asleep when we got home.

She woke up still in her stroller and agreed to lay down on her bed with me. She breastfeed while we both then napped until 5:30pm.

Jon got home and made dinner. I shared a popsicle with Isobel - she ate most of it and we watched some Doctor Who. With a break for a bath.

Jon's just putting Isobel to bed now. And I think we'll be heading to bed shortly as we're both tired as well.

94/365 - One of Those Days

Actually, it's been one of those weeks.

I couldn't sleep last night so it was almost 2am by the time I got to bed. Jon also had insomnia, so he played PS3 while I surfed the internet. Isobel then started crying at 3am so I crawled into bed with her. She wasn't up for too long this morning before Jon came in to kiss me goodbye around 7:30am. Shortly afterward, Isobel and I got up.

I managed to get a couple of boxes unpacked this morning, and a bit of laundry done before Isobel got too cranky. We then got dressed and headed out for a walk. Even though it was nice out we didn't go too far. Just to the mall. Bought Isobel a red Canada 2010 Olympic hoodie for our walks, a mango julius, and a $0.25 ball from Old Navy - she loves opening the container to find the ball more than the ball, but she held the ball the entire way home and then lost it the minute we walked in the door. We also picked up some bread items from Cobbs.

We took the park walk home, but no bunnies to be found on our path. Plenty of ducks though.

Made it home and made Isobel some bunny mac and cheese for her lunch. She didn't complain about them, but wasn't as excited about then as in the past. For some reason during lunch, she laid down on the floor (as pictured above) and started happily kicking. She was then a ball of energy. So much for my hope that she'd squeeze in a nap before Angel arrived. Isobel wasn't impressed that I stopped playing with her to start getting a few things ready for work.

She was just starting to get ready for a quick breastfeeding doze when Angel called to say she was running a bit late and ask if Isobel and I could meet her at the sky train station. So I ran around trying to get ready (and of course forgot stuff) and then had a coughing fit. Isobel and I headed out and then met Angel at the sky train. We traded off the baby and I gave Angel my house keys before parting ways.

Things were a little busy at work when I first got in. I took over the cell phone and radio duty and tried to sort out a couple of things that have been on going issues. Then did a walk about with Nathalie and showed her how to print off some passes that I haven't had a chance to get for her yet. Eventually made it back to the office, but most people had already gone home. Ate dinner and tried to get some work done before I had to head back to the terminal for meetings. Back at the office now, but have to run up to the terminal again soon to pick up some stuff and then I'll try to get some more work done. Stats are never going to be finished at this rate. Oh well..... I get to hand off the phone and radio in a couple of hours and then sky train it home. Plus I'm off tomorrow.

93/365 - 15 Months Old

I was on baby duty last night. Not too sure what time she started crying and I crawled into bed with her, but she slept mostly until 6am although with lots of tossing and turning. I couldn't get her back to sleep afterward. So at 6:45 we crawled into bed with Jon as his alarm was set to go off in fifteen minutes.

Jon then got up and started getting ready for work. It was really cute, Isobel saw him putting on his shoes so she brought him her boots.

This morning, Isobel and I tried to get her fifteen month photo with her penguin, but she was crabby, so we went for a walk instead. I decided we'd check out the community health center. It was a little longer of a walk than I anticipated - about 30 minutes. But I was able to get Isobel weighed - 19 lb 12.5 oz with clothes on - and set up an appointment for next week to talk to a nurse about how to start weaning Isobel so that we're ready to try to eliminate breastfeeding at eighteen months. I'm getting the feeling that it's going to be harder than I'd like and might end up being convinced to go for an additional six months.

On the way home we stopped at the mall to get Isobel a mango julius and a couple of apple-pears.

When we got home, I was able to get Isobel's fifteen month photo. She had lots of fun playing with a roll of toilet paper and wiping the noses of her Olympic mascots. I suppose she's been watching me blow my nose a lot the last few weeks.

Isobel still ate some macaroni salad for lunch today, but she wasn't as excited about it as yesterday. Oh well....

I'm scared that she's starting to get sick again. Her nose has started running a little bit and she seemed cold to me today.

Angel came over this afternoon to play with (and watch) Isobel for us while I headed to work. I had to leave just after 2 in order to make it to work in time by skytrain and Jon didn't get off until 4pm.

Work had arranged to have Lori cover my shift in case I was still sick, so it was nice to have someone else around tonight and especially someone who has had an opportunity to do some job shadowing the day before. I'm on my own tomorrow night. I'm surprised how quickly this evening shift has gone by.

Hopefully, Isobel was a good girl for Jon this evening. I saw them briefly around 6pm when they dropped off my house keys. I really miss them!

92/365 - Colouring with Crayons

Poppa and Louise gave Isobel these toddler crayons as part of her Christmas present. They're awesome. They are triangular and easy for Isobel to hold. It actually looks like she's concentrating on what she's drawing in this picture.

At 2 am, I crawled into bed with Isobel. She woke up a bunch of times and insisted on breastfeeding to go back to sleep a few times. It felt like forever to me, but then Jon came and switched places with me at 3am.

By the time the alarm went off at 5am, my stomach still wasn't feeling settled, so I decided to stay home. Given how cranky Isobel was for parts of the day, I may have been better off at work.

Jon was at work from 10 to 6 and in between had another dentist appointment. Isobel and I coloured. She didn't want to nap for me, so in the late afternoon we went for a long walk and stopped at the library to get my library card. On the way to the library, while in the park, I s aw a bunny by some tees and hiked across the mud with the stroller to show it to Isobel. The stroller, my boots, and pants ended up covered in mud. On the way home, also through the park we saw tonnes of bunnies. Of course.

Isobel's appetite has returned. She ate two platefuls of macaroni salad and a couple of cucumber slices for lunch, most of a apple pear for a snack and a bun, and then some chicken and macaroni salad for dinner and most of a popsicle by herself.

Jon gave her her bath tonight and is just putting her to bed. I'm on night duty though as I'm not scheduled to go into work until 3pm tomorrow.

91/365 - Early Valentine's Present from Grandma and Grandpa

Isobel was playing with our alarm clock yesterday and turned the volume down. So I slept in, which was just as well, as I was sick to my stomach again this morning. Not very pleasant. So I made it into work late.

Thought I was starting to feel better by the time the day ended. Jon and Isobel came by to pick me up. They also brought our flash into Nikon for them to look at; they'll give us an estimate in a week. Which means over a week without the good flash. I can't believe that we used to think the built in flash was fine.

On the way home we stopped and picked up a package for Isobel. It was her Valentine's Day present from Grandpa and Grandma. It's still a bit big for her, but she seemed to have fun pushing the chairs around, trying to climb onto the chairs (and eventually not needing help onto the chairs), and putting stuff on the table. So, I think it's a hit with her.

Isobel managed to get one of her diapers off by herself this afternoon. It was right after I changed her, and I don't think I put the diaper on as tight as it should have been, but she got one of the sides undone and stepped out of it. For the last few days, she's also been fairly successful at getting out of, or almost out of, her shirts and onesies by herself. Good thing it's starting to warm up here as I think she's going to be a naked baby more often if she continues on this path. And Jon and I will be finding her by the trail of clothes she leaves on the floor.

While Jon made dinner, Isobel and I had a video call with Uncle Matty. I'm used to only doing video calls with my parents, that I forget to use it when talking to other people on messenger until Jon reminds me. It's so much faster.

After dinner, Isobel and I took a bath while Jon had a shower. Isobel wanted out of the bath when she heard daddy, so Jon came and got her. Shortly after getting out of the bath, I was sick to my stomach again. So much for me eating Jon's favorite pasta of late again anytime soon.

Isobel was cranky for most of the day, so Jon got her to bed after I was sick and I started my write up and am drinking some hot water with lemon and honey to soothe my throat.

We have childcare planned for Isobel tomorrow. And I'm supposed to do a little job shadowing for the Olympic related duties I start on Wednesday evening, so I'm really hoping to make it to work, but have prepared people in case I don't. Feeling better now, so I may just limit my diet to liquids tomorrow to make it through the day.
