Isobel even slept fairly well for Alida. And is welcome back. Jon and I were up at 6am and ended up playing games on the computer since we couldn't fall back asleep.
The birthday party at the pool seemed to go well. I got a little freaked out when another lady poked her head in and said that she had also booked the kids party room. Turns out that she was booked in for 2010, but the pool was able to accommodate her and found another room for her party. I was a little upset that we might not end up with the teach pool to ourselves for the first hour, but we were the only ones there until the public is allowed in at noon.
The kids seemed to have lots of fun splashing around and didn't want to get out of the pool for lunch. And Isobel got spoiled with presents. I forgot about the pinata and Jon had to remind me just as most people were getting ready to leave. Overall, I'd say the birthday party went well. But I'm glad they're only once a year.
Afterward a few friends came back to our place for some games. And now everyone's gone and Jon is making us stew for dinner. Looking forward to a quiet evening with a bath and then looking at Isobel's presents.

4/365 - Birthday Cupcakes
I only saw Isobel for about thirty seconds today as I kissed Jon goodbye this morning. She was snuggled up to her daddy. We really need to get her to start being able to use a blanket at night again. I don't kiss Isobel goodbye in the mornings in fear of waking her up - although I do blow her a kiss.
Jon drove Isobel out to Chilliwack as she is spending the night with Alida. I had a meeting that ended late and wouldn't be able to get her when Jon dropped her off on his way to work. And this way would be able to decorate cupcakes without Isobel demanding attention in the evening.
So I think I've done well with Isobel's first night away from us. I've managed to only call three times. I miss her though. But apparently she's having too much fun to miss us. I missed out on my baby's first taste of dill pickle - which she apparently loves. And Annika has loved having Isobel around and even changed diapers. Here's hoping that she sleeps well for Alida tonight.
The cupcakes for Isobel's birthday didn't turn out quite how I was hoping and took longer to complete than I anticipated. I ended up adding a lot of red food colouring and then got paranoid on the amount of food colouring I was adding so decided to settle for pink. But the pink ended up being a salmon mousse pink - oh well.....my new plan is to take some mommy time one weekend a month to bake and decorate cupcakes in order to practice so Isobel's second birthday's cupcakes turn out a bit prettier. Our co-workers may end up hating me for forcing them to eat so many cupcakes, but oh well maybe by the time Isobel hits school I'll be better at decorating.
Jon arrived home to a candlelight apartment. And then was put to work making egg salad for sandwiches for tomorrow. So much for a nice romantic evening. Maybe if Isobel sleeps well for Alida she'd be willing to take her again some night soon so that Jon and I can have some grownup time together; we'll survive him working evenings but I miss spending time with him.

3/365 - Baking
I had today off as well. I figured it would be an easier transition for Isobel if she didn't have to do the commute and trade off every day this week. Plus I wanted to bake some cupcakes for her birthday party and figured it was easiest to do when Jon was around. Otherwise I'd be worried about her being at my feet and a hot oven opening and closing.
She started playing with the bowl I wasn't using and using her spoon to mix up her toys. She's going to be a very good helper soon.
We walked Jon to the skytrain on his way to work - after stopping at the mall for lunch and checking out the comic shop and Future Shop with Jon. And on the way home, Isobel fell asleep in the stroller. It kind of scared me at first as she was slumping forward and I didn't know if something was wrong with her. So I lowered the back of the stroller a little bit and nudged her to lay back and she fell asleep. She was still asleep when we got to the apartment so I left her in the stroller. She woke up within fifteen minutes of getting home though. Oh well, at least it was a bit of a nap.
We spent the afternoon playing, reading, and packing for her overnight visit to Auntie Alida's tomorrow night. Made mac and cheese for dinner again - it's easy and she'll eat it. But I do need to start finding other things to make.
Bopomo called to say that the pictures for our session last Saturday were ready, so Isobel and headed out with the car to pick them up. I didn't realize how miserable out it was when we left. Isobel had just fallen asleep when we got there and I dragged her out in the rain to walk the thirty seconds to the studio. And then she had also just fallen asleep by the time we pulled into our parking spot at home and was wide awake by the time we got to the elevator.
We had a bath and then got ready for bed. Kept trying to do a video call with my parents to show them the photos, but had difficulties.
Bed time again didn't go great. She thinks it's funny when I try to get her to sleep, so I have to leave her alone in her room for a few minutes to cry before she'll lay down and try to go to sleep. From that point she was asleep withing fifteen minutes. One of these days she'll learn.

2/365 - Helping With the Laundry
Jon managed to get Isobel weighed on the way to work today - 17 lb 1 oz. And then they got to work over half an hour early. Isobel and I then skytrained home while Jon went to work.
Isobel didn't get a nap in, so she was tired most of the evening. She went to bed a tiny bit early and I fell asleep with her until Jon arrived home.
We managed to get a couple loads of laundry into the wash (still waiting to be folded though). And as pictured Isobel loves to help - she decided to help by wearing daddy's dirty underwear and playing with one of his shirts.
Had dinner of mac and cheese (which Isobel yummed up) and then a bubble bath. Jon called us while we were in the bath so we didn't get to talk to him.

1/365 - My Baby's First Birthday
I'm going to try to do a 365 of my daughter's second year. No guarantees that there will always be a write up though.
Today, my baby girl turned one year old. I'll admit to being a little sad that my baby is no longer a baby but I love the little girl she'd turning into.
I had the day off from work to spend some time with her today. But ended up bringing home some work to get done in the morning since it's month end and our first month with a new system. Hearing her laugh with Jon (he was trying to distract her so that I could work without interruptions) made me try to work as quickly as possible and reminded me of how much I love her laugh.
Today we walked to the nurse's health station to try to get her weighed, but the room for that is unavailable on Tuesdays. So Jon is going to try again tomorrow. And we'll have her weighed again in a couple of weeks with her doctor's appointment.
On the way home, we picked up a few groceries. Mostly stuff for her birthday party this weekend. And a cupcake since her birthday was today and I wanted photos.
We did a video call with my grandfather (he shares the same birthday as Isobel). And then it was time for Jon to head to work.
My second evening without Jon. It's going to take a while to get used to. I miss him and look forward to spending a few minutes with him when he gets home before I hop into bed.
I managed to make Isobel and I some grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner (I really need to get into the habit of cooking pretty quickly) and then we had a nice relaxing bath. Managed to get in a few stories and some playing. And take a few more photos of Isobel for her grandparents. And now it's time to wind down and get ready for bed. Here's hoping she goes down easier for me tonight than yesterday evening - I really miss Jon at bed time as more often than not in the last six months, he was the one putting her to bed.
